It's the time of the year when your kids will consume the highest amount of sugar that can be damaging to your child’s dental health. Make sure you're on top of your kid's dental health this Halloween.

Feasting on sugary goodies throughout the day without altering your dental hygiene accordingly introduces multiple negative dental effects. Sorting your kid's buckets is important. You can support your child’s joy of the Halloween season but take action to moderate the amount and types of sweets they consume. Take proactive measure to educate your children on the importance of a sound daily dental care responsibilities that include brushing immediately after consuming their Halloween sweets.

Gummies and sour candies should be eaten moderately. These types of candy have a high concentration of sugar and acid that can damage tooth enamel. In addition, avoid hard candies; it can possibly crack and break their teeth. Plain chocolate is the best they can take as it melts quickly, and sugar won't stay long on their teeth. However, chocolate with caramel and nut fillings must be eaten in moderation.

Make sure to give their candy treats right after meals since saliva production at this time is at its peak. This can help rinse sugar particles away from the teeth naturally. And if brushing is not possible, provide them a glass of water to drink right after eating candy and sweets. Sugar particles that lodge on the teeth for a long period can feed bacteria and promote bacterial growth. This bacterium will eventually cause cavities and tooth decay.
