Understanding Dental Bridges

- Friday, April 28, 2023

A dental bridge is a dental restoration treatment used to replace one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges are usually made of porcelain fused to metal or ceramics, and can be supported by natural teeth, implants or a combination of both.

The process for getting a dental bridge typically begins with a consultation with a dentist. Here at Oyster Point Dental, during your consultation, our dentists will examine your teeth and gums to determine if you’re a good candidate for a dental bridge. Once our dentist determines that you are a good candidate, they will create a treatment plan and discuss all of the options available to you.

Next, your dentist will prepare the teeth that will be used to support the bridge. Your dentist take impressions of your teeth for the bridge. This impression will be sent to a lab where the bridge will be made.

Once the bridge is ready, your dentist will bond it to your teeth. The bridge is held in place by dental cement and sometimes with the help of a metal or porcelain post that is inserted into the abutment (supporting) tooth.

Finally, our dentists will make any necessary adjustments to the bridge and make sure that it fits properly.
